Creation of the renowned T suit, under the short-lived Tarzan name.
Georges Beuchat founded the Company in 1934 in Marseilles on the shores of the Mediterranean, the cradle of modern diving. He was a young man of 24 with a fascination for the underwater world - a spear fishing enthusiast who went on to imagine and create products that would open the way for the development of modern underwater activities.
In 1947, Georges Beuchat, the visionary pioneer of underwater sports fishing, invented the first underwater speargun, the celebrated Tarzan, by developing the first elastic propulsion system.
In 1953 Georges Beuchat invented the modern wetsuit. This groundbreaking innovation played a key part in the expansion of underwater sports. And nearly seventy years later, the foundations that he laid are still sound despite major changes in materials and techniques.
In 1958, Beuchat introduced the Compensator mask, the first mask with an angled window and finger wells for equalisation.
The Souplair was Beuchat’s first regulator; the S is still celebrated in the underwater diving world.
In 1964 Beuchat invented the Jet Fin, the first fin equipped with power jets. By reducing the negative zone effect, power jets made the finstroke more comfortable, more effective and more efficient. The Jet Fin was a huge commercial success and is still marketed throughout the world.
This innovation was born of Beuchat’s unceasing quest to provide improved comfort and performance for all underwater sports enthusiasts. In 1966, he produced the first suit specially designed for the female body shape.
The sea, Beuchat’s original inspiration, also provides the bedrock of our technical expertise. The sea is the space where our corporate know-how is naturally brought to bear on behalf of expert divers. They are represented here by Albert Falco wearing the famous Beuchat yellow-striped suit
In the 1980s, Beuchat, concerned by the impact of pollution on the oceans, was a forerunner in launching the Save the Sea! campaign
The first Masterlift stabilizer jacket.
A collar/vest type hybrid buoy, the OCEANE is in continual use by many military diving teams including those of the French Navy
The first Mundial long fins with interchangeable blades and bi-material elastomer foot pockets.
In 2005, Beuchat launched the Focea Comfort which was quickly acclaimed as the best dive suit in the world. Comfort, warmth and toughness were the watch words that guided the engineers, designers and marketing staff responsible for this product.
2014 saw the introduction of the PreCut System that allows divers to convert long johns easily and quickly to waist-cut pants, and the Braca Concept, which allows divers to pass water without having to take off their entire suit.
Beuchat was the first brand to propose a groundbreaking 3D photographic camouflage: the Trigocamo camouflage!rnWe commissioned a new series of photographs representing the great diversity of the undersea world and added an enhanced depth-of-field effect to create our unique, high-performance Trigocamo Wide camouflage.
