Of the is a jack genus and found only between the North Cape and the East Cape of the North Island of New Zealand. Koheru are schooling fish usually feeding on planktonic crustaceans such as shrimp and larvae. They can usually found around rocky reefs and pinnacles in cleaner offshore areas.

A less common targeted species for speros and normally regarded as bait for line fishers, however Koheru do make for good eating, especially raw.
